Love, Respect, Safety and Fitness For Gadsden’s Youth
August 22, 2011
Shanks Middle School students learned some important techniques to help ensure their safety in a summer program. The youth also participated in some interesting fitness moves that challenged their bodies as well as their minds. Lori Livingston, TCC Program Director for Educational Talent Search and Master Anne Radke with A Better Body Health and Safety wanted the youth to learn ways to defend themselves without hurting others. The students were taught how to block, get out of grabs and what choices they could make to avoid injury. The fitness portion of the sessions brought team work, smiles, and a good old fashion sweat as they performed three man drills, a good cardio boost and a game of fun sparring.
Marshall Williams, 21st Century Program Director and Mrs. Robinson for Havana Middle School also made the summer fun for his children with karate classes taught by Master Anne. The children learned not only how to kick, punch and block but how to control themselves, be respectful, be more focused and defend themselves. All the children did so well they earned their belt promotion and were all smiles at the end of the session.
